Are you looking for that special one of a kind item to remember your time in Japan or are you interested in traditional Japanese patterns? If the answer is yes then Yomikaeru has exactly what you need. Junko Fukasawa upcycles exquisite fabrics from traditional Japanese kimonos and designs and manufactures bags that are customized to your preferences and lifestyle.
In Japan many beautiful kimono are packed away in drawers and are rarely worn by women of any generation, as western style clothing is now the norm in Japan for most events and occasions. In order to bring these beautiful kimono and obi back into the spotlight Junko Fukasawa transforms them into bags so that they can be coordinated with modern, western style clothing.
The process of custom making a bag begins when you bring in the kimono or obi you wish to upcycle. (For those who do not have their own kimono or obi, a selection of kimono fabrics, as well as ready-made bags are available for you to choose from.) Once the type and shape of the bag is decided upon, the accompanying parts of the bag are then selected; handles, straps, clasps, lining etc. These parts are contemporary in both their design and the material they are made of as it is important that your bag can be coordinated with your everyday clothes. Once everything has been decided and agreed upon, we provide you with an estimate for your bag. As the total design of the bag is done in consultation with you, you can rest assured that the bag you purchase is truly one of kind. A variety of bag types and shapes are available, including handbags, backpacks, clutch bags, satchels and more.

Junko Fukasawa started sewing when she was a high school student. Self-taught, she has continued over the years to make clothes for herself, family, and friends, always focusing on quality. After recycling an old pair of her own jeans into a bag, she thought she would try to upcycle kimono into contemporary and fashionable bags. These bags are now used and enjoyed by people both in Japan and all around the world.
