HINA ARCHITECTS’ STUDIO
A Kyoto Architect Who Brings the Charm of Traditional Machiya Townhouses to Her Modern Designs
Natsuko Okuda is an architect and interior coordinator who specializes in the design and construction of traditional Japanese houses and the full range of fixtures and decorative features found in these homes. Her architecture firm, Hina Architects’ Studio, serves the Kansai Region of West Japan and gladly caters to foreign nationals residing in Japan.
Okuda brings to her craft a wealth of practical ideas and designs, and a vision and approach to architecture that also draws upon her experience as a parent and homemaker. The result is imaginative but functional designs that can minimize housework while maximizing space and comfort. Meticulous attention to detail, fidelity to the client’s wants and needs, and
comfortable living spaces that harmonize with the surrounding neighborhood are the constant standards for her firm.
Established in historic Kyoto, Hina Architects’ Studio is located in the famed Nakagyo ward. It is an area that is home to many of the kinds of houses and buildings Hina’s founder loves and knows best, structures that showcase traditional Japanese design and craftsmanship at its finest.
As architect, designer and interior coordinator, Okuda oversees a studio whose expertise covers everything from the building design to its interior and exterior decorating, with only the highest quality materials used.
Visitors to Hina Architects’ Studio can see for themselves that the same intricate lattice work, Japanese style stucco, hardwood floors, washi papering and fusuma doors that give Kyoto’s traditional machiya townhouses their lasting appeal can all be part of a custom designed home.
Consultation, from planning to a final design decision, usually lasts up to three months. Construction is usually completed within twelve months from that point.
Consultation and design fees start from as low as 1.2 million yen, with construction costs separate.
