At “Visit Akashi” we organize tours and enjoyable activities in English and Chinese that help promote a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and customs. Our guides and interpreters will accompany you on tours, giving you the opportunity to learn more about Japan than just regular sight-seeing tours offer.
Our activities are centered in Akashi City in Hyogo Prefecture, conveniently located between Osaka and Himeji and easily accessible from Kobe City. We have exciting programs in place now that will immerse you in Japanese culture and enable you to interact with local residents.
Tatami Making – Tatami mats are a feature of not only traditional Japanese homes but also of many modern homes and apartments. On this tour we will take you to a tatami mat workshop to see how they are made from Igusa rush grass. Visitors will be able to make their own mini tatami mat which they can keep as a unique souvenir.
Origami – The Japanese Art of Paper Folding. Origami is already well known around the world and on this tour you will learn how to fold paper into amazing shapes from our wonderful origami teachers. Under their expert guidance you will soon be creating your own origami art.
Kimono Wearing – Have your own “Day of Hare” when we dress you up in a beautiful Japanese Kimono. Nowadays a Kimono is worn to celebrate special moments in life, these days are known as “Hare”. On this tour you will learn about the history of the kimono, be dressed in a kimono, and we will teach you the customs and manners associated with wearing a kimono.

Cultural Tour Coordinator
After graduating from college Ms. Kubo worked for 8 year at the Akashi City International Exchange Association. During her time there Ms. Kubo established a Japanese Language teaching program and supporting events for non-Japanese residents and their children. In May 2016, Ms. Kubo founded an NPO, “Mann-Maru Akashi” in order to develop businesses and services that would assist non-Japanese residents and also to serve as a contact point to promote international understanding between local residents and non-Japanese either living in or visiting Akashi.
