Tomohiro Hashizume — Composer, Conductor, Producer
Activities:
Tomohiro Hashizume specializes in composing and performing works rooted in Japanese classical literature and culture. His portfolio includes:
- Premiering the original Japanese opera The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter and Moon Princess in 2022
- Publishing and performing the Yamato song cycle Manyoshu in 2025
- Producing the Japanese opera The Tale of the Heike
In addition to creating original works, Mr. Hashizume leads culturally rich concert projects, including international collaborations and regional music festivals.
What Sets His Work Apart:
- Deep Cultural Interpretation: While some performers set Manyoshu poems to music, Mr. Hashizume uniquely interprets the historical, emotional, and poetic background of each waka poem. He crafts accessible modern Japanese lyrics and melodies that resonate with today’s audiences, allowing listeners to deeply connect with Japan’s classical heritage.
- Integrated Creative Vision: By independently handling both lyrics and composition, he achieves a unified musical narrative. His original melodies are composed with accessibility in mind, making the profound world of waka poetry feel intimate and emotionally immersive.
- Innovative Project Design: Mr. Hashizume excels at developing inventive concert formats. For example, Playing with Music! Old Stories was a family-friendly music project blending storytelling, acting, and music across generations. Another initiative, Glorious Music from Vienna PROJECT, showcases Viennese music and culture, featuring students and graduates from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The fourth installment is scheduled for February 2026 and includes cultural experiences such as Austrian cuisine and traditional costumes.

Philosophy & Mission: “You Will Love Japan Even More”
At the heart of Murasaki Music Office’s activities lies a dedication to promoting the beauty of Japanese culture through music. We believe music has the power to transcend language and touch hearts, and through it, we aim to preserve and share Japan’s cultural heritage with new generations.
The Manyoshu, Japan’s oldest poetry collection, holds particular significance for us. We hope that both Japanese and international audiences will explore its verses and deepen their understanding of Japan’s literary and natural landscapes—perhaps even visiting the locations described in the poems themselves.
As opportunities for cultural engagement diminish in modern life, especially among younger generations, we strive to create inspiring experiences that encourage people to “fall in love with Japan all over again.” Our aim is to connect past and future, local and global, through the universal language of music.
Our guiding concept, the “Happy Melody Project,” expresses our desire to bring happiness and inspiration to the world through music.
Services and Collaborations
While our core focus is classical music concerts, we also perform at a wide range of events—corporate functions, cultural festivals, civic celebrations, and more. We can tailor our performances to fit the scale, setting, and purpose of your event.
Additionally, we offer original composition services for school songs, company anthems, and other commissioned works. These pieces are crafted to reflect the vision and values of each client. English-language services are also available.
Please feel free to contact us for performance bookings, composition inquiries, or cultural collaboration opportunities.
